The Easy Way to Paint a Fireplace Shiplap Wall

Materials Needed

• QuickPainter Pad Edge Painter
• Paint
• Drop cloth

Since I'm in the process of giving my fireplace a makeover, my most recent project has been installing a shiplap wall above it. By painting the shiplap before installing, it made the entire project much more efficient and faster.

To get started I cut my shiplap to size and then lightly sanded each piece. Then I setup a drop cloth for my painting area. I then prepped my HomeRight Super Finish Max Paint Sprayer with the green spray tip and my latex paint.

Next, I started painting all my shiplap boards with 2 coats of paint.

I let the shiplap boards dry for an hour or so before I started installing above my fireplace. As you can see below I already installed 2 wood boards to frame the shiplap space. If you plan on doing this, you can also paint these ahead of time as well. Of course I forgot to do that!

But after the entire wall was installed, I patched the nail holes, added caulking to the seams, and then touched up all the white paint. Finally, I used my QuickPainter Pad Edge Painter to touch up the existing wall paint.

I love using the QuickPainter Pad Edger since it makes getting a clean straight edge quick and easy. There's no need to tape, just drag the QuickPainter along the shiplap edge and it works perfectly.
