Home Based


Special Children who need therapy but cannot be brought to the centre for various economic, social and logistic reasons are given therapy by trained Community Health Workers (who have been trained by our Professional staff) in their homes. They render their services in 29 slum pockets and different areas in the city which includes Bajwa, Undera, Panchavati, Gorwa, Laxmipura, Subhanpura, Gotri, Ambikanagar, Gayatrinagar, Tandalja, Maneja, Kalali, Pratapnagar, Makarpura, Manjalpur, Panigate, Fatehpura, Ajwa, Waghodia, Karelibaug, Fatehgunj, Tulsiwadi, Kishanwadi, Sawad Quarters, Nizampura, Chhani Jakat Naka, Navayard, Sama.

Survey of Disabilities in Rural Vadodara

18 villages within 20 Kms of Vadodara, to name a few, Chapad, Bil, Bhayali, Sindhrot, Sevasi, Kalali, Raipura, Mahapura were selected. The staff made a door to door survey to screen the entire population of around 100,000. Nearly 20 children with disabilities were identified through this screening from each village. Local Ladies  were trained by our staff to impart therapy to these children at their convenience at their homes.

Arpan – A Placement Centre

  • Graduate Students from Faculty of Community Science, Dept.of Human Development and Family Studies are given a six – week placement to sensitize them on different types of Disabilities.
  • Post Graduate Students from Faculty of Social Work – Vidyanagar,  Sardar  Patel University and Indira Gandhi National Open University are given placement for six weeks to train them in Social Work with Special Children and their Parents .
  • Graduate Students of Special Education, Sikkim Manipal University as part of their placement for a period of six weeks.
  • Students of Early Childhood Care and Education, Special Education, Sikkim Manipal University come to take lessons as part of their placements.
  • Students of Masters degree in Psychology  and Post Graduate students of Guidance and Counseling from Faculty of Education and Psychology come as part of their observation and placement studies.

All these Students actively participate and at the end of their placements submit their reports.

Annual Visits by Students

  • 30 Students from DSE (CP and MR) from PNR Society, Bhavnagar visited ARPAN as part of their educational trip.
  • 25 students and 3 staff members from DECC-SE from ASHA School visited ARPAN as part of their educational activity.
  • 7 Students from Faculty of Social Work visited ARPAN and performed a Puppet Show for the Children of ARPAN.
  • Students from Centre for Adult Education and Community Services-The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda performed a drama on “Parenting your Child” for the staff and parents of ARPAN.
  • 16 Students from Indu Nursing College visited ARPAN as part of their Field Work Studies.
  • 14 Students along with 3 Staff from B.Ed college- Navrachana University participated in the activities of ARPAN.
  • High school students from Navrachana International and Utkarsh School.
  • Four students from USA and UK visited ARPAN and participated in different activities as part of their Community Services Project.

Youth Exchange Student Placement

A student from Belgium was placed by the American Field Services (AFS) at Arpan under the Community Services Exchange program from January’10 for a period of 6  months.
